The most glamorous of careers often hide some of the darkest stories beneath. Lolo has achieved her present post after a lot of struggle and perseverance. Jones grew up with the most difficult of lives being the daughter of an unwed mom who had five other children. Her mother was always moving around and even lived in the basement of a church for some period of time. Jones needed to go to the same high school each year due to her nomadic upbringing. At Theodore Roosevelt High School, Jones lived apart from her mother to pursue her passion for athletics. She stayed in four houses during her years of high school, so she could complete her studies in the same place. Jones, a cellist in the school's orchestra, and winner of the Gatorade Iowa track and field athlete of the year award was awarded the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award towards the close of her high school career.
