Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native, was born and raised in the city. Her mother Pam was a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. As a child her father was appointed as the curator of the Strawberry Mansion Section. Her family moved later into this historic house. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan was a contralto member of the youth choir, and was later a part of the adult choir. His exposure to secular music was initially minimal "I did solos in churches and a person wanted me to go on the gospel label at age was eleven but I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. After that, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept what God allows" at The show Showtime At the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at 13. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. She was signed to Jive Records in the year 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. The album did not see release. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott, who produced many of the tracks in her debut album which included the hit single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
